During the tenth plan, a revised outlay of Rs. 1400 crores has been proposed for the Power Sector in order to provide reliable power supply to the consumers and also for the electrification of villages. The Govt. of India, under APDRP (Accelerated power development and reforms programme) scheme, has set a target to achieve 100% electrification by 2008-9 and to provide electric connection in every household by 2012. This ambitious goal requires huge amount of funds and calls for perspective planning to meet the challenging power requirements.
